The History

According to Armenian legend, the island of Akhtamar was home to a prince named Vardan, who was known for his exceptional musical and poetic talents. These gifts were used to spread the word of God throughout the kingdom, but the reigning king was a pagan who grew envious of Vardan's popularity. As a result, the king ordered Vardan to be thrown into the lake. However, a young girl who was deeply in love with Vardan and believed in his divine mission, prayed for his safety. To her surprise, Vardan miraculously survived the fall and swam to the island of Akhtamar, where he lived out the rest of his days using his talents to glorify God and inspire the people. The island has since become a place of pilgrimage for Armenians, who believe that the spirit of Vardan and the power of the girl's love and faith still reside there.
