The History

It's hard to overstate the importance of Tigranes the Great to the history and culture of the Armenian people. He ruled from approximately 95 BC to 55 BC and is remembered as a great military leader and a patron of the arts. During his reign, Tigranes the Great expanded the territory of Armenia through successful military campaigns, and he is credited with establishing Armenia as a major power in the region. In fact, he was so successful in his conquests that he was able to annex the kingdoms of Atropatene and Media, as well as parts of modern-day Turkey, Iran, and Iraq.

But Tigranes the Great's contributions to Armenia went beyond military might. He was also a patron of the arts, and supported the development of literature, music, and other cultural traditions. In fact, he is credited with bringing Greek culture and learning to Armenia, and he established the city of Tigranocerta as a major center of learning and culture.

Today, Tigranes the Great is remembered as a key figure in the history of Armenia, and his contributions to the expansion and cultural development of the kingdom are still celebrated and honored by the Armenian people.
